Heute ging es um 05.30h los zur Fähre nach Bella Coola. Um 06.00 war Loading und um 07.30h Abfahrt. Das Schiff fasst rund 35 Fahrzeuge und einige Fußgänger und Fährt dauerte 10 Stunden. Vorab, das Wetter war klasse, so dass wir den Sonnenaufgang von Bord genießen konnten. Das Schiff zudem nicht voll belegt, so dass es ausreichend Platz für alle gab. Wir hatten den Abend davor noch 4 Amerikaner kennengelernt, die an ihren beiden VW Bussen gebastelt hatten und im Gespräch ergab sich, dass auch sie die Fähre am nächsten Morgen nehmen wollen. Die Herren waren alle geschätzt zwischen 60 und 70 Jahre alt, aber sehr redselig und freundlich, vielleicht auch, weil wir Ihnen am Abend davor Hilfe bei ihrer Reparatur angeboten hatten.
Die Fahrt durch das Meer und die Fjorde war wundervoll und es gab viel zu sehen, traumhafte Landschaften, Berge, Gletscher, Orcas und am Ende viele Delfine, die durch das Meer sprangen. Rundum eine gelungene Reise.
Gegen halb sechs Abends kamen wir in Bella Coola an, eine eher übersichtliche und kleine Stadt und von da aus ging es dann rd. 20 Minuten zu unserem Hotel Bella Coola Mountain Lodge, ein Hotel aus Holz gebaut mit Blick auf die Berge (bis 3.000m). Das Abendessen hatten wir im Hotel in einem kleinem Restaurant, in der Nähe wäre sonst auch nichts gewesen, gut war es, aber wohl auch das bisher teuerste.
Morgen geht es dann den Highway 20 (Freedom Highway) rund 200 km nach Kleena Kleene, einem sehr ursprünglichen Ort auf die Terra Nostra Ranch. Der Weg dorthin nehmen wir über den Heckmann Pass, 60 km unbefestigte Straße mit sicher toller Aussicht. Im Winter und bei Regen nicht befahrbar, auch deshalb liegt Bella Coola recht einsam.
